JAHRESGABE Edition 2018 – KEANON POHLMAN

KEANON POHLMAN aka URBAN KHOI

Influenced by local graffiti art and 90’s Hip Hop music, Keanon grew up as a young street artist in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town. He uses graffiti to challenge stereotypes, whilst informing, inspiring and uplifting the rather under-resourced communities, who do not have access to high profile art galleries. He prefers to work in the streets of his neighborhoods in large scale murals he describes as ‚art for all‘.

Having studied fine arts a the Ruth Prowse School of Art, Keanon collaborates with other emerging artists in local and international group shows.

As a descendant from the KhoiSan, the indigenous people of the South African Western Cape, Keanon celebrates their culture by studying characteristic facial typologies and exploring colour schemes expressing facets of the KhoiSan history.

For the Matchbox JAHRESGABE Keanon developed a series of classical portraits in combination with his unique graffiti style.
