End of March 2020 South Africa has announced the globally most radical lock down. As well as any public life, all daycare centers were shut down and the families in the township communities had to isolate themselves in their small homes. In an environment of high unemployment rates, the few income sources were cut off and basic food and health supply could not be provided. The lock down caused huge socio-economic consequences, leading to hunger and despair.

Throughout the crisis Matchbox provided over 6.000 food parcels to the 500 children from our centers and their families that generated over 200.000 meals. Since the lock down ended in October 2020, our centers re-opened and we deliver healthy meals for our children on a daily base.
