These contour prints explore our South African colonial history, table mountain as seen from Table bay would have been an imposing sight to the first European ships to visit our shores. Much of our indigenous history has been white-washed and history books have been written from a colonial biased perspective. Table mountain bore witness to all the atrocities that were committed in the name of bringing culture and civilisation to the ‘savages’ who called this place home.
I chose an intense red to provoke a visual reaction to the extreme changes white settlers imposed on the indigenous peoples with the geometric shape providing perspective and direction for colonial influence.
