Garth Wareley, aka AwehMigo, is a painter and visual artist from Cape Town, South Africa.
He has 15 years of experience in design, graffiti, visual identity and of course painting. His clients include Media24, RedBull, Distell, Design Indaba and many more. His style is easily recognisable: semi-realistic images, bold colours and balanced tones – imaginary windows into another world. His work can be seen on walls and buildings throughout Cape Town and his iconic songbird-inspired graffiti adds colour and aesthetics to the often harsh environment.
Inspired by the local kwaito and hip hop culture, drawing and painting became an integral part of his life at a young age. Numerous impressive graffiti and exhibitions testify to Garth’s ambition to break down barriers and redefine norms. He is passionate about helping local communities to make art more accessible
When asked what sets him apart from other artists and why he loves his work, Garth replies that he is obsessed with getting a job done the right way, no matter what. Every job is a challenge: whether it’s braving the weather, pushing his physical limits or expanding his mental perspective. In addition to his great inspiration from nature, he is also motivated by the opportunity to play between reality and fiction through painting, the movements of an artist as he paints and creates, and the opportunity to create his own story through his work.
In addition to painting, Garth is also the business owner of Huiskind Studios, a father, husband and avid bird breeder.
