nitially the Xhosa-speaking ladies of Qubeka, Mandisa Masina, Nolubabalo Kanku and Neliswa Sigwela produced jewelry from traditional African beads until they co-founded an independent master craftsman studio, where they use their talents and experience in bead work to create two-dimensional images, using colourful beads in the size of 2-3 mm only.
Successfully, they manage the Qubeka Beadwork studio in the Cape Townian ‘Fringe‘, where they create beaded art works of all scales.
As their edition for the Matchbox JAHRESGABE, the team of Qubeka has re-interpreted a series of images taken in a photo workshop facilitated by Matchbox for young adults from the Township of Mfuleni. The participants expressed their individual perception of ‘‚HOME‘.
The beaded art works are 15 × 15 cm.
All beaded artworks are available, if not labeled otherwise.
